Woodland Play Patch
Welcome to Woodland Play Patch, Fencehouses, Durham. A carefully planned indoor play space designed with open ended, wooden toys and resources to offer a calming environment and alternative to soft play. Suitable from birth to pre-school, we have chosen toys specifically to help in all areas of your Childs development. Our play space is the perfect fun day out in Durham and the North East.

What we are about
Owned and ran by Craig and Sophie Williams, parents to their son Avery and Ivy-Isabella, Woodland Play Patch was designed to offer a welcoming and calming play space to all parents, carers, babies and toddlers within County Durham and across the North East of England.
After giving birth to Avery, Sophie felt limited with places that she could take Avery to, that had a focus specifically on babies and younger toddlers. Most places that were available were targeted towards older toddlers with a small baby pen and were so large and busy that often anxiety of taking Avery out meant that she often stayed at home.
After attending a local toddlers group in Durham, where she met like minded mums, Sophie realised the importance of building a strong mum friendship circle and over the years from Avery being born to opening Woodland Play Patch, has created some strong mum friendships that she knows she has for life.

After being "that mum" herself, Sophie and Craig wanted to create a space where mothers, fathers and carers can come with new born babies and toddlers, without the chaos of soft play. Somewhere intimate, where over time, customers will always see a familiar face and to encourage mums to sit together, talk and socialise. Somewhere, that allows the children to grow and develop where they can come as babies and enjoy until they start school.

Five years on, Sophie is now lucky enough to benefit from Woodland Play Patch herself. After giving birth to their second child, daughter Ivy during the Pandemic, Sophie now has a strong community of mams, who she has met from Woodlands New Mam Socials.
Although Woodland Play Patch was interrupted during the pandemic, we have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our customers over the last three years and seeing how the little ones use their imaginations with our toys. We have a strong, loyal customer base of families who enjoy talking to other families, who there is always a friendly face when you visit. So if you have not been before we look forward to welcoming you to WOODLAND PLAY PATCH very soon.
UP COMING EVENTS
Alongside our normal open play sessions, we also host a selection of socials. Our socials cover New Mam Socials twice a week, Dad Socials twice a month on a Saturday, Grandparents Socials weekly and Twin Socials twice a month.
Our Socials are in place, to encourage mums, dads and carers across the North East of England whether new or of toddlers, to come along and meet others who want to socialise and make friends. We have created a lovely community, some of who travel from various areas of Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle, and we will always include and encourage new visitors to come along. Everyone will be introduced and we have such a friendly bunch that they always make the effort to speak to new comers. If you want to come along but have some anxieties, please get in touch we will always endeavour to put you at ease.
Alongside each of our socials, we have a closed community group on facebook for our customers to have a safe space and Whatsapp Groups for each social so our visitors can continue to communicate outside of the session.

NEW MAM SOCIALS
New Mam Social -Monday and Tuesday 12-1.30
Our new mam socials are designed as a safe space for all mams to come with their babies and meet other mams who have had babies around the same time. We understand how lonely having a baby can be, but it doesn’t have to be. Sophie is on hand for each session to make introductions and ensure conversation is flowing.
Alongside our session, we have a closed group on facebook for our customers to join and a whatsapp group to ensure relationships are maintained outside of Woodland.

GRANDPARENTS SOCIALS
ALTERNATIVE MONDAYS & THURSDAYS 9:30 - 11AM
We have allocated specific mornings on alternative Mondays and Thursdays to our Grandparents Socials.
We decided to implement these grandparent get togethers in order to ensure that these sessions were smaller and more intimate numbers, allowing for grandparents to get together safely.
These sessions have remained since the restrictions lifted and we have established a lovely group of grandparents who attend the same sessions each week. We allow for both grandparents to attend these sessions, as we appreciate that both of you want to spend time with the grandchildren.

TWIN SOCIALS
Twin Social – Alternate Wednesday and Thursdays
twice a month.

After discussions with a mum who started at our new mam social, we decided to put on a twin social. Life with twins is something that only other twin mams can understand.
The focus of our Twin Social is to bring twin mams together, offer support and guidance on the early days and bring you a twin community to take with you as your little ones grow.
Woodland Play Patch is a great fun day out in Durham. Baby and Toddler friendly play space near Sunderland and Newcastle. This easily accessible play cafe is at the heart of the North East of England with great transport links via the A1 motorway and plenty of bus routes to all the surrounding villages across County Durham.

By far the best play area we have been do, Philip loved it, he just got straight into playing and really enjoyed his lunch! The whole place is beautiful, perfectly laid out and so friendly and relaxed. Can't wait to come again!!

Woodland Play Patch is available to hire for any occasion from Birthday Parties and Christenings to Family Gatherings. We offer two packages starting from £50 for an exclusive use session as well as birthday party packages.
Here at Woodland Play Patch, we love hosting a Birthday Party for the little ones. Any exclusive use or party session gives you full access to our centre for up to 2 hours to ensure your family and friends can enjoy the day.
